CONSUMER AWARENESS

Improving consumer awareness, perception and acceptance of European aquaculture products and methods.

Consumer awareness and perceptions of feed, products and production methods will be assessed through surveys in the following 5 European countries: UK, Germany, Italy, Greece and Spain. The countries selected for the surveys are based on the rate of consumption of organic and conventional seafood in that country.

Marketing approach of the existing Eco-labels will be assessed through experiments in order to give input to a labelling strategy, and to learn from failed practices, while adapting successful strategy elements to the approach.

Challenges action related to access to production sites for different kinds of aquaculture production (conventional, RAS, IMTA, organic)  will be assessed in FutureEUAqua.

The analysis will provide information about challenges and  subsequent suggestions for regulatory revisions to remedy these, and hence, contribute to the continued development of aquaculture production in Europe.

Communication strategies will be tested through experimental interventions, and the regulatory challenges related to space needed for aquaculture production and closed production cycles will be assessed through interviews and existing literature.
